The Latin Music Workshop teaches salsa music fundamentals to young percussionists ages thirteen and older. The program is designed to share the fun of Latin music and demystify the beats and rhythms that make the sound salsa. 

 

Students learn basic techniques on conga drums, bongos, bongo bell, timbales, maracas, güiro, and claves. This program focuses on Afro-Cuban rhythms such as son, cha cha cha, danzón, rumba, and others.  

Taught at the Smiling Drum Studio in St. Paul, Latin Music Workshop instructors include top Twin Cities Latin music artists such as Yeniel Chini Perez, Rene Thompson, and  Andrew Gillespie. Yolanda 'Yuya' Rodriguez from Havana, Cuba will be a special guest instructor. See Program Page for Workshop dates, and registration.
